The Rockies have a chance to sweep the Nationals today, in what might be Davey Martinez's last game as manager. They won 3-1 last night, handing Washington their 11th consecutive loss. Today's game will feature yet another terrible pitching matchup, but if this contest is anything like last night's, both teams will be so bad offensively that bottom of the rotation pitchers will look like Cy Young candidates. Normally, a sweep that requires the last game of the series to be won is unlikely, especially when that team has to travel right after the game (the Rockies head back to Colorado to play the Diamondbacks tomorrow), but with the way the Nationals have been playing, I fully expect them to lose. They have to travel even farther, heading to Los Angeles to play the Dodgers tomorrow. Like yesterday, I expect their bullpen to allow the Rockies to open a somewhat comfortable lead late. The Nats have a 5.90 bullpen ERA, second worst to only the A's, who are currently getting crushed by the Astros' powerful offense. Starter Trevor Williams possesses a 5.71 ERA, so they might be allowing runs all game. Chase Dollander has a 6.57 ERA for Colorado, but it might not matter. Any game in which Washington is favored gives immense value to the opposing team. Honestly, I can't understand how, after the first couple games of this series, Washington is still a favorite. Maybe it's just that having MVP candidate James Wood gives them a boost. Regardless, take the Rockies here.
